Low Carb Herbed Cheese Tartlets

Low carb herbed cheese tartlets are a delightful twist on the classic French tartlet, perfect for those looking to reduce their carbohydrate intake without sacrificing flavor. These savory bites are inspired by the rich culinary traditions of France, where cheese and herbs are often paired to create mouthwatering dishes. The use of a low-carb crust makes these tartlets an excellent choice for those following a keto or low-carb diet. They’re perfect for entertaining or as a sophisticated snack, offering a blend of creamy cheese and fresh herbs encased in a crispy, golden-brown shell.

These tartlets pair beautifully with a crisp green salad, perhaps with a light vinaigrette to complement the richness of the cheese. For a more substantial meal, consider serving them alongside a bowl of roasted vegetable soup or a platter of grilled chicken. A glass of chilled white wine, such as a Sauvignon Blanc, would also enhance the flavors of the tartlets, making for a well-rounded dining experience.

Low Carb Herbed Cheese Tartlets

Ingredients

1 cup almond flour
1/4 cup coconut flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 large egg
1 cup shredded cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar)
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a mixing bowl, combine almond flour, coconut flour, and salt. Stir in the melted butter and egg until a dough forms.

Press the dough evenly into the bottoms and up the sides of a mini tartlet pan or muffin tin to form the crusts.

Bake the crusts for 10-12 minutes, or until they are lightly golden. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, mix together the shredded cheese, cream cheese, heavy cream, garlic powder, onion powder, and half of the chopped herbs.

Spoon the cheese mixture into the pre-baked tartlet shells, filling each one generously.

Return the tartlets to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with the remaining fresh herbs before serving.

Variations & Tips

For a different flavor profile, try using goat cheese or feta in place of cream cheese. You can also experiment with different herbs, such as thyme or rosemary, to suit your taste. If you prefer a bit of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the cheese mixture. For a more substantial tartlet, consider adding cooked bacon or sautéed mushrooms to the filling. These tartlets can also be made ahead of time and reheated gently in the oven before serving.
