Low Carb Crustless Pizza Bowl

In the heart of the Midwest, where the fields stretch as far as the eye can see, we often find comfort in the simple, hearty meals that bring families together. This Low Carb Crustless Pizza Bowl is a modern twist on a classic favorite, perfect for those looking to enjoy the flavors of pizza without the extra carbs. Inspired by the traditional pizza nights we used to have with the whole family gathered around the table, this dish captures the essence of those cherished moments. It’s a wonderful option for anyone wanting to enjoy a cozy meal that’s both satisfying and mindful of their dietary choices.

This delightful pizza bowl pairs wonderfully with a crisp green salad, perhaps with a tangy vinaigrette to complement the rich flavors of the dish. You might also consider serving it alongside some roasted vegetables or a light soup, like a simple tomato basil, to round out the meal. For those who enjoy a bit of crunch, some homemade garlic parmesan crisps would be a lovely addition.

Low Carb Crustless Pizza Bowl

Ingredients

1 pound ground Italian sausage
1 cup sliced bell peppers
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 cup marinara sauce (sugar-free)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sliced black olives
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Directions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, cook the ground Italian sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat.

Add the sliced bell peppers and mushrooms to the skillet and sauté until they are tender, about 5 minutes.

Stir in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes, if using. Let the mixture simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors.

Divide the sausage and vegetable mixture evenly among four oven-safe bowls.

Top each bowl with an equal amount of shredded mozzarella cheese and sliced black olives.

Place the bowls on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before garnishing with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm.

Variations & Tips

For a vegetarian version, you can substitute the sausage with a plant-based alternative or simply add more of your favorite vegetables, like zucchini or spinach. If you prefer a bit more spice, consider adding some chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the mix. For a different flavor profile, try using different cheeses such as cheddar or provolone. You can also experiment with different herbs, like oregano or thyme, to suit your taste.
